What's New On Ithaca Greece
May 2024
Wednesday 16th - Alot of cloudy skies this week with some patches of sunshine. Some days are busy when there are flotillas in the harbours, others are as quiet as February.
Friday 17th - A windy day yesterday and maybe some of today. Watch those umbrellas stay put. Below - Kioni
Above and Below - Polis Bay.
Above - Lazareto in Vathy. Below - Frikes Bay.
Above - Exoghi - Below - Vathy.
Monday 20th - Temperatures are going up. It's going to be a hot Summer going by the very mild winter we had. The other night there were about 200 yachts in Vathy. You have to wonder how a small island like Ithaca can cope with such influx and if we can, shouldn't the island get some funds from those who profit by using the beauty of Ithaca to lure their patrons. We furnish them with rubbish collection, power and water. Their waste is dissolved with chemicals and then dumped into our bays. Ithaca needs tourism, but there should be a balance. Every year yachts anchor nearer the beaches. Speed boats and water toys racing in the areas where kids swim. Right now it's balance that's missing from this equation.
Thursday 23rd - This past week we've had a brownish hazy sky, full of dust from the Sahara. Not the best. Everything gets covered in dirt.
Above - Yesterday was the celebration of Papoulaki, the beloved Saint for the Orthodox. Click Here or on photograph above for more pics.
Wednesday 29th - The temperatures are in the low 20's but it feels alot hotter. Who knows, maybe the forecasts are completely wrong as yesterdayfrom early morning, we should have had thunderstorms until this afternoon, yet yesterday's skies were blue and almost clear. Below - Afales, looking toward Exoghi.
Below - Polis Bay. Local fishing port and 2 lovely beaches.
Below - Lefki from behind the pines.
Friday 31st - You just never know what you'll come across when you make your way down a dusty country road. Below - Aithon Palace above Vathy.
Above - This little piece of paradise is above Kolieri. Just beautiful.

Wednesday 29th - There seems to be a steady build up of visitors coming to the island. Yachts definitely are the forerunners, but as we head closer to July and August, company bookings begin to fill the accommodations.
Friday 31st - The last of the wild flowers, now mostly thistles blanket the fields.
