What's New On Ithaca Greece
September 2023
Sunday 17th - The weather is amazing at this past week. Just makes you want to get out there to enjoy it. Clear, clean views, some more people coming to the island to enjoy the shoulder season. Less people and not so hot.
Tuesday 19th - The weather is absolutely perfect these past days. Not too hot, not too windy. Still plenty of visitors to the island, but not as hectic of course as August. It's a nice chill feel. Everyone seems to be pretty happy too now that the rush is over.
Wednesday 20th - Alot of yachts in Vathy yesterday. Almost as busy as mid August. The beaches are still buzzing with activity too.
Above - Sarakiniko Beach has had a complete facelift since my last visit. Now there's a big restaurant on the up side of the road, last time I was here, there was only an outside dunny (loo).
Friday 22nd - Yesterday in Vathy, it was like mid Summer. So many people, so, so, so many yachts. Looks like people are making the most out of the last rays of sunshine before Autumn kicks in.
The light is beginning to change.
Monday 25th - The weather is changing. After a week of misty views, this afternoon we are expecting some rain along with a storm or two. A quick drop in temperature too, but not too drastic.
Still so many yachts sailing into the harbours around the island, day trippers too.
Above - Myrtia Restaurant.
Wednesday 27th - Thunderstorms forecast for today. Bad weather all over Greece for this week. Will it mean the end of Summer? Probably, but temperatures will stay around 28C after the storms have passed, so still plenty of time to swim.

Summer on Ithaca Greece
Sunday 17th
On Ithaca we'rel all enjoying September before October changes our moods to prepare for Winter.
Tuesday 19th - There's been a mix of feelings for the Season this year. Some feel it was alot quieter than usual, others feel it's been really busy.
Wednesday 20th - Already heading into the last week of September. Soon the weather will change, the skies will darken and we'll all be huddling around our heaters...but not yet. There's still some Summer left to enjoy.
Above and Below - Sarakiniko Beach. A seminar on how to go under in a canoe without drowning. If you think you know the face, you're right. It's Mr. Myrtia, Nektarios, as in Poppy and Nektarios. It's not often you see him so far from home.
Friday 22nd - It's so disappointing that this machine, made to clear roadsides, is being used on our fragile environment. Decimating everything in it's path. Overhanging gardens, olive and cypress trees, while all the while the grass is still high enough to cause a fire danger. It's a couple of weeks away from local elections and so out come the big guns to show there are things being done. Clearing scrub should have been done before the fire season, not now when it's only going to shoot up again after the first rains. Unfortunately this machine is ruining the fragile flora of the island and although some care this is happening, most do not, and I guess, especially not those who have given the stamp of approval. Below - A Lamborghini. Is it a matter of boys and their (very expensive) toys? I wonder.
Monday 25th - September is on it's last breaths and soon we'll be preparing again for Winter. First comes the olive harvest season, then Christmas and then hibernation.
Wednesday 27th - If you blink, September will be over, so despite the storms, let's enjoy the last few days of this special month.
