What's New On Ithaca Greece
October 2023
Thursday 12th - The 2nd and last round for Greece's local elections. Let's see if the results vary. Meanwhile, it's a little chillier with thunderstorms forecast on the horizon.
Sunday 15th - Mid October and the weather is still so very fine. Nights are a bit cooler, but the days are still made for swimming and the enjoyment of blue skies.
Wednesday 18th - Last night thunderstorms and lightning ripped through the Ionian cutting power for some time, not only on Ithaca but by the look of the blackness outside my window, Lefkada and Kefalonia too. Before the grey skies, there were blue ones.
Saturday 21st - Supposedly a weekend of thunderstorms in our area. It's already much quieter now and whoever (visitor) is left, will probably disappear if this is the case.
Tuesday 24th - Not much to say other than the 2023 season is over and from all accounts it was a successful one, although slightly up and down at times.
It's perfect weather for walking around the island. The weather is still for the most part, fine, more fine than other years.
Thursday 26th - The season is barely over and for some, boredom has already set in. Others are enjoying the quieter time and less populated environment. Ithaca is moving into the future (the moto of the council). I pray it's not one dictated by those who know nothing about Ithaca and decided by those who know Ithaca well and experience it on a daily basis. Ithacans have special needs as do all small communities around the world. One size does not fit all.
Sunday 29th - Yesterday was the national holiday for Oxi Day. Ithaca had parades in Stavros and Vathy. For some pics CLICK HERE or on photograph below.
Monday 30th - The end of another month. Weather has been mild for this time of year and there are still visitors roaming the island despite many Summer businesses closed or closing as we head into winter.

Autumn on Ithaca Greece
Thursday 12th
There is definitely a feel for Autumn in the air now. Days are shorter, nights are longer and by the end of the month, daylight savings will be over and we'll fall deep into cooler season.
Sunday 15th - The 2nd and last round of elections will be decided today at the polling booths around the island.
Wednesday 18th - The weather may have been dramatic, dark and forboding yesterday, but the forecast for today is sunny again.
Saturday 21st - Can't believe we're already into the last week of October. Time is racing by as did the elections. Congratulations to all the winners, may you be fair and good to Ithaki and it's population. A special place requires special consideration.
Tuesday 24th - Seasonal storms occasionally hover over the island. The rains only make for a greener island.
Thursday 26th - I don't know if the act of changing Odysseas statue infront of the Folk Museum in Vathy, is out of prudishness or creative vision.
Monday 30th - Below - Vathy on a sunny day.
