What's New On Ithaca Greece
August 2023
Tuesday 22nd -Today Ithaca is blanketed in a suffocating cloud of smoke which is being carried all the way from a forest fire in Evros in the north east of Greece. So think, the sun can't break through it. Yesterday however, the skies were clear and the air, fresh.

Wednesday 23rd - 2 days of a smokey haze over the Ionian, including Ithaca, originating over 800 km away in Evros. With very little breeze to disperse it, we could continue like this tomorrow also. The smell of smoke won't leave our noses.
Friday 25th - With rain expected tomorrow, everyone's making the most of the sunshine today.
Monday 28th - Clipping the last couple of days of August and already the chaos of the high season is beginning to dwindle. The roads aren't as congested and there is parking at the beaches again.
Last night at Yefuri Restaurant in Platrithia, The Argos Foundation (Animal Welfare) had a fun(d) raising party with raffles and donation boxes on all the tables. The theme was 80's and the dj's honoured the theme. A fun night and the foundation raised 500 euro. For some pics CLICK HERE or on photograph below.

Below - The quarry in Stavros on hold for the time being if not forever due to the owners death. The owner of this also owned the petrol station in Frikes. Until someone takes it over or buys it, we'll have to go to Vathy to get petrol.
Wednesday 23rd - A big party at Yefuri in Platrithia on the 26th August. Money goes to the Argos foundation which looks after the animals on the island and helps to keep the numbers down.
Get along and dance. It's the 80's!
Friday 25th - Due to forecast rain tomorrow, the 80's party at Yefuri has been moved to Sunday 27th august.
Monday 28th - The hot weather continues, but happily the smoke cloud from Evros which hung over much of Greece including all the way over to our Ionian, has begun to clear.
