What's New On Ithaca Greece
April 2022
Sunday 17th - A bit dreary weather-wise, but hopes are high for a fun filled (and religious for some) Easter coming up.
Thursday 22nd - Only a few days until Greek Easter Sunday. The day that everyone in the country has marked off on their calendar as the biggest festive day of the year.
The island is really waking up now with only a few days until Easter. The ferries have been full to the brim as mainlanders come back to Ithaca for this most festive of occasions. Businesses preparing for a good start to the season.
Friday 22nd - There's a mass exodus from the mainland and a fair amount is ending up on Ithaki for Easter. Ferries are full and throbbing with energy and life. We'll get out amongst it soon, but for now, here's paradise.
Yachts are sailing in every day now, sometimes the jetty is even quite full. Below - More action in Frikes with Ageri getting ready to open it's doors.
Saturday 23rd - So happening this Easter week. Alot for the kids, alot for the adults. A couple of days ago, there was an Easter Egg hunt for the kids in Vathy. Click here or photo below for a few pics.
All the Easter pics coming after we've had Easter Sunday in a big Easter special, the first in 2 years due to covid. We'll hopefully capture some familiar faces, if not too covered and make some more happy memories.
Monday 25th - Our Big Fat Greek Easter from Good Friday to Easter Sunday. Click Here or on photo below for all the pics.
Wednesday 27th - What glorious weather this past week. Perfect Spring days with blue skies and warm sunshine, wild flowers covering the lush, green island.
Thursday 28th - Just can't get over how perfect this past week has been. The weather is amazing, bloom everywhere. Many have left after the Easter influx, but there are still enough visitors here to make it interesting.

Spring on Ithaca Greece
Sunday 17th
Wishing everyone a happy Easter and for Greece, a happy Greek Easter week.
Thursday 22nd - Spring brings all kinds of surprising weather. One day sunny, next raining.
Above - Odysseas Taverna is getting polished up for Easter and the Summer Season. Ageri and Odysseas will be getting all the spill over now that Rementzo is no longer a Frikes regular stop for so many.
Friday 22nd - Easter is at our door and we're all rather excited after 2 years of not having it.
HAPPY GREEK EASTER EVERYONE!!!
Saturday 23rd - Everyone's getting ready for Resurrection celebrations tonight. Historically (in the Orthodox Greek Religion) at midnight tonight signifies the rising of Christ which is celebrated nationally by the lighting of candles. First the priest lights his candle and from that flame all the congregation light their candles. Looks quite magical. There are ceremonies in Vathy, Stavros, Anoghi, Exoghi, Platrithia and Kioni. On Sunday, Greek Easter Sunday, the fast is broken with a huge feast of lamb on the spit, wine and music and dancing around Greece. It's the most celebrated event in Greece. Families travel hundreds of miles to be together, visitors come to experience some of it for themselves, and if lucky enough to speak to a local, would soon be invited to sit around their table to join in this massive celebration.
Above - In Stavros, the Periptero and the Bakery have been a great addition to this northern Ithacan village. Keeping the village alive both summer and winter.
Above - An ALPHA rooster keeping his pen in check. Feathered legs stomping regulations in rooster talk.
Above - Ageri Restaurant in Vathy. It may well be alot quieter in Frikes now that Rementzo is no longer, but the up side is that now you'll have time to discover the other great restaurants on Frikes village bayside, Ageri and Odysseas.
Above - The island has well and truly woken up from it's winter hiatus. Kioni too, is ready for the Easter rush with Spavento and Avra restaurant, just to name a couple, ready and waiting for locals and visitors alike.
Wednesday 27th - Ithaca is slowly returning to the pre-Easter normal, although there are quite a few tourists here already.
Thursday 28th - Cat on a step.
