What's New On Ithaca Greece
January 2021
Sunday 17th
After relatively mild winter temperatures, the big chill finally hit. Again, lockdown was supposedly going to end tomorrow after being extended from the 11th, but we will see today if that's the case.
Above - Ainos ferry is currently transporting ithacans from north to south and vice versa as the main road is in dangerous disrepair at Aetos.
Wednesday 20th - Businesses are open with some restriction, but the lockdown is basically still in force with curfew and permission needed to leave the house with only a few options available unless you are working in the businesses that are allowed to work. Masks are still mandatory everywhere. There is a 2 hour window allowed for shopping. Ithaca still has no cases or illness other than the normal winter ailments.
Friday 22nd - Some harsh punishment on the island if you are caught using the road at Aetos. Police are taking your number plates and suspending your license for a period of around 20 days. It's a difficult time for those having to transverse the north/south divide. The ferry (if the weather is good) leaves Frikes early morning and returns back around 2.30pm. It's along time to walk the empty streets of Vathy after you've done your banking. Works on the road have not yet begun and Ithacans fear it may take too long. Let's hope it's done by Summer. Sunday 24th - Speeding through this month despite lockdown and restrictions. Hopefully we'll get some value out of 2021.

Wednesday 27th - Bad weather again yesterday, but we have had some quite nice weather too. Hoping everyone is coping with their various lockdowns and restrictions. We have some heavy celebrating to do on Ithaca when this is all over.
Above - Perahori. I always say this, but it's so true. This village has one of the friendliest communities, but also some spectacular views. Below - View down to Vathy and beyond from Perahori.
Thursday 28th - Can't wait to take photos of the locals again without risk of getting anyone into trouble. So for now it's objects and buildings and sea and sky.
Sunday 31st - The sun is beginning to set a little later in the day now and the moon, when it rises, rises while it's still daylight, so we head toward the end of the first month of 2021 with little changing since 2020. Hopefully some pics from around ithaca will let you remember better days. Below - Kioni. While we are all under lockdown, our trips out to take photos can sometimes be limited by police.
