What's New On Ithaca Greece
March 2020
Sunday 22nd
I hope we can put all our differences to the side and support eachother through these tense and worrying times. We all hope the illness spreading around the world will resolve, but we are in for an uncertain future, and there is no doubt about that. Let's hope that Ithaca Greece, along with all the other beautiful holiday destinations around the world, can still be part of our lives. We need to fill ourselves up with the things and people that make us happy and Ithaca has always managed to do that to so many thousands from around the globe.
Below - Raxi views with Atokos and Mainland Greece in the distance.
Above - Ag. Sarantas. One of Ithaca's most traditional and quaint villages. Friendly people, always willing to help.
Above - Looking through an olive branch down to Polis Bay.
Wednesday 25th - A bit chilly yesterday, but the sun will be here soon enough. For now the island looks amazing with a lush green carpet with wild flowers, brightening up a confusing and worrying time. Below - Lahos.
Above - Agalio above Kioni.
The birds are coming out of the trees with so little traffic on the roads and the cats lay in wait for them.
Thursday 26th - It's all quiet on Ithaca. If it has been overrun by Athenians coming home, it's not very noticeable. Everyone is pretty much staying in.
Saturday 28th - I hope everyone is keeping well both physically and mentally. Isolation can be a very challening experience for all those who have no depression or anxiety, but for those who do, I know it can be completely overwhelming.
The police are making their way around the island, patrolling for quarrantine offenders. What an unusual sight that is. We don't see police in the height of Summer, except for when there's a drive for tax collection or a complaint about too many chairs in a restaurant or cafe.
Sad to say that those who have very little to do other than look out their windows to see who should and shouldn't be in the street, should maybe focus on something beautiful and soothing, like Ithaca's stunning views.
Monday 30th - As we continue to self isolate, we appreciate that some excercise in the fresh air is not forbidden. It can recharge our energy, as for some, this can be an anxious, dangerous or lonely and depressing time.

Spring time on Ithaca Greece
Sunday 22nd
We've had some fine weather lately, but another rainy change is in the forecast. That's not unusual. It's Spring. Weather is changeable during this beautifully colourful and lush season
While most now practice self-isolation, occasionally you can wonder out to get some air or take your dog for a walk.
Above - Looking down onto the flats of Polis.
Above - The island is in full bloom now. It's so beautiful and can't unfortunately, at this time, be enjoyed the way we have been able to in the past.
Wednesday 25th - Below - Kioni, looking toward the 3 windmills. In Summer, a giant red moon arises from behind the mills. A spectacular sight.
Thursday 26th - Whoever would have thought this dispopian future would have crashed into us so quickly and so unexpectedly. We are all living in very uncertain times, some concerning our health, some our wealth. One thing is clear during this almost global lockdown, the countries which have enforced it, are inadvertantly cleaning up the atmosphere and injecting life back into the wildlife and through that, ultimately back into us through clean air. We should do this once a year. Give back to the planet.
Saturday 28th - It's nearly the end of a month that never was in a year that may never be. Take care everyone.
