September 2014 - Monday 22nd - A muggy and tropical couple of days. Very hot, but overcast, no wind, just a little suffocating. How the weather has changed over the past few years.
Lots of people around yesterday with many bus tours and day trippers stopping by for an hour here and there.
It almost looks like rain today, and it's quite hot so we may have a little rumble of thunder later on. Then again, it may all just clear up and mean absolutely nothing.
Thursday 25th - Really beautiful weather day yesterday. After the muggy days that came before it, with clouded over skies and no air moving, it was a wonderful change the wind brought about. It cleared the atmosphere and gave us the blue skies we are so accustomed to.
The island has bouts of activity now as we head into the end of September. Day trippers, yachting flotillas and bus tours give the island a burst of life throughout the day, and when they're gone, it's peaceful and quiet as if no one had ever been here.
Friday 26th - I guess when the weather forecast suggests there would be a 90% chance of rain, we should have paid some attention to it, but often, the weather report is so wrong, that I guess we ignore it far too often. What the weather report didn't say was that it was likely to rain non stop for around 9 hours.
Left - I think we all have this look when reading our electricity bills.
As far more of you read the daily updates, I'd like to inform you all that if you own a home in Greece, the house rates will no longer come off your electricity bills, but now need to be paid via ENFIA. You must get a key to get online with the tax department and then print out the, for a better term, rates notice, to pay it at the bank. Due date is 30th September before penalties apply. That they have left it up to individuals to discover this for themselves, is reprehensible on behalf of the government. If you have a tax representative, laywer with POA or accountant, they can do this for you, if not, I have no suggestions, other than being here and getting an accountant or tax rep to do it for you. This was apparently just brought in this month, so a surprise for all home owners.
Sunday 28th - A big photo update today with scapes from Ag. Ioannis and Kioni. For those who have been to Ithaca, it's probably no secret as to just how wonderful late afternoons are around Lefki and Ag. Ioannis with the golden light that fall across that side of the island. Sunsets from there, are spectacular with deep gold colors illuminating the sea and mountains.
The sun may be shining again after a couple of days of very rainy weather, but the temperatures have dropped by at least 10 degrees these past couple of days. Back to jackets and socks. Quite a shock to the system, but this year's Greek summer was not what we all expected. It was in fact a much, much cooler season generally.
Tuesday 30th - Lovely day again yesterday. A little warmer than the past. Lots of sunshine and a great temp of around 26C.
