June 2014 - Saturday 14th - Noticeably more people around now. The north can still be a little sleepy, which of course is so charming, but Vathy has definitely increased its inhabitants. Felt like Summer had such a slow start, but now it really does seem to be revving up.
Left - Ithaki Restaurant has quickly gained a great reputation, not only among the locals, but also visitors to Stavros.
Below - Sotiros bell tower and clock in Stavros.
Left - A replica of what is thought to have been Odysseus Palace is displayed in the Stavros village square. It gives people a little idea of what it may have been like.
Below - Odysseus bust, also in Stavros park across from Sotiros church, is one of the most photographed statues on the island.
Below Left - There are many quality accommodations for all budgets on Ithaca. Dexa Villa Apartments is just one of them. If you look under Accommodation on the menu, you can see just what's available for your holiday in the village you would like to stay. Dexa Villa apartments are located in walking distance to Dexa Beach, one of the popular beaches in the south of the island.

Below - The favourite past time of locals is spending time at the local Kafenion catching up with friends and neighbours.
Left - Vathy harbour is one of the deepest natural harbours in the world, it's also a beautiful place to gaze upon.
No matter what your taste, you will find a cafe bar just right for you. In the Vathy village square, you can pick up Wifi from just about anywhere.
In Stavros you can also go to Margarita Cafe which has wifi and of course Frikes and Kioni. Most cafes and restaurants offer free wifi to their patrons.
Left - If you've been to Ithaca before, and in particular Vathy, then you'll have no doubt stopped by for a meal at O Nikos Restaurant. Niko has given his traditional taverna a complete make-over with new kitchen, interior and bathrooms. All the things you loved about the restaurant before are still there. Great service with a smile, reasonable prices and of course his traditional Greek kitchen.
Left - Where else can you buy fish fresh from the back of a motorized lawn mower?
There are so many great restaurants around the island, from Libretto and Kohili on the bayside to O Nikos and Kalkanis in the back streets, you'll be sure to find something to wet your appetite on your holiday.
For music, snacks, desserts and alcohol, there's great places like Karamela Cafe Bar and Mylos in Vathy also. Occasionally Karamela Cafe also puts on some live music which is always a bonus, especially on a warm summer's night.
Yesterday afternoon, the north Ithaki kindergarten community put on a lovely performance of sketches from Greek cinema. Truly lovely time. For more pics CLICK HERE or on photograph Left
Monday 16th - Some great weather again yesterday, not too hot, not too cold, just perfect. With bus tours, daytrippers and an Italian film crew who were shooting some spots to promote Ithaca as part of the Ionian holiday, there were lots of people around.
Fiorendino Bar had the pleasure of getting some shots done on it's premises by the Italian film crew.
Left - Nikos from Mylos creperie in Vathy with his son Niko headed up north for a bite to eat with a little seaside fun as a bonus.
Above - Taki, who some of you may have known at Polis Beach as right hand man to Laki (Lucky), has taken over the beach umbrellas and sun beds in Lucky's absence. Lucky has finished with the beach, but will be back for holidays. Meanwhile, Taki brings a whole new energy to Polis beach with his 'oh so charming' character, humour and dedication.
Polis beach not only has beach umbrellas and sunbeds, but a great Cantina with lots of snacks, ice-creams and drinks, it also has canoe hire and speed boat hire, so just ask Taki for the heads up and he'll make sure you get what you need when you need it.
Late afternoon and early evening is a magic time at Polis beach. Everything's calm and the sunset colours begin to blanket the beach in gold.
There are some things the economic crisis can not diminish. Special moments on Ithaca cost nothing.
