Thank you to Nikos and Zaharate Vlassopoulos from the northern village of Lahos, for letting ithacagreece.com share their Easter with them. These locals adhere to the old tradition of eating local goat with potatoes baked in the oven with lemon and oil. |

For Zaharate and Nikos, Easter Sunday is much like other days. They cook for themselves and keep eachother company as they have for over 50 years. Nikos, a devout Greek Orthodox, has been completely involved in the church services over the big Easter week. He is illuminated by them with a passion and whatever else may change in the world, Easter time, is a time he has celebrated all his life in much the same way as he does today, religiously. |
