Exoghi village was once a thriving community, united high above the sea for protection from the pirates. The village would send it's women, naked to lure the pirates away to where they would be captured by raw linen traps. Around the area of daphnae cottage, Spania, there is the early 1900 church of Taxiarchis which was built, but never finished, the cobble path leads down from the village of Exoghi, past daphnae cottage and further down to Platrithias and Kalamos, where prior to 1953, there was no road from the village to the rest of the northern island. The women of Exoghi would take their laundry and spend all day at the Kalamos Spring, washing, before once again, making their way up the ancient path which has been dated back to Homeric times through archaeological finds. |
