Tue 24 July - While Ithaca is sizzling under the hot sun, some are getting caught in Summer traffic in Vathy, while others cool themselves at the beach. Left - Dexa beach just outside of Vathy is a great place to cool down, both in and out of the water. Shady olive trees give some much needed respite from the 42C and the heatwave conditions over the past week.

Fri 27 July - A much cooler day yesterday with all the clear views we expect on Ithaca, but by sunset, the heat mist had returned and was coloured and intensified by the fires burning across in Cephalonia. Left - view to Polis, Stavros. Below left - Another sunset in Lefki. No wonder visitors to the island all stop along the roadside to watch the sun go down. |

Sat 28 July - Middle - The annual Graphic artists Poster Competiition and exihition is on again. This year, the posters are being displayed in Frikes instead of their usual place along the bayside of Vathy. Far Right - Andreas, the well respected archivist and historian living in the north of Ithaca, says hi to Poppy and Nektarios in Frikes. Below - The summer parade from restaurant to restaurant looking for the right stuff to make the final decision on where to sit to eat. |

Everyone on Ithaca is more relaxed with a cooler breeze blowing around the island.

Sun 29 July - Last night, the Perahori Wine Festival let loose a truck load of Kefi on the southern Island and everyone there seemed to have a great time. The community organizers were thrilled with the turn out, and of course those who trekked the steep roads, were rewarded with some Perahori wine straight from the barrel and lots of dancing and Summer enjoyment. |

In Frikes, on the other side of the island, there were wedding bells for Illiana and Marco from Australia, who celebrated their wedding on a chartered boat fit for Kings, while earlier in the evening, Iasonas from Patra/Stavros/Exoghi, was baptised at Ag. Dimitriou church. Ag. Dimitriou is a tiny little church in Stavros, on the road toward Anoghi. Most of the locals invited, had never set foot inside this chapel, even some who had lived in and around Stavros all their lives. Mum Ageliki and dad, Dimosthenis from Tehnima Jewelery in Kioni with the help of parents, put on a great party afterwards to celebrate. |

With tempertures going up and up again, it's beachside where the best relief from the heat can achieved. Blue Ionian waters, cooling, refreshing, translucent and crystal clear. Like big swimming pools, but without the chlorine and chemicals. The place to play and swim, and to sleep through the midday heat, awaking with the afternoon breeze blowing over the shore. A playground for all ages. |

Tue 31 July - Left - The red sunsets over Ithaki have been very stunning this past week. After the red sun goes down, there's a red moon rising. Just awesome. |
Below - The Forkis Childrens Theatre Group put on a fun, successful and worthwhile performance of 'To Sklavi', written by Xenias Kalogeropoulou and directed by Athena Arseni, on 29 and 30th July at the Cultural Center in Vathy. Opening night was sold out - good for the Theatre group but not so good for those coming late to the door. Luckily for those coming late, there was another night ahead. The kids had a lot of fun which was very infectious and could have been enjoyed even by those who do not understand Greek. Click here or on photograph below for more pics. |
